An iconic part of the Scottish capital Edinburgh’s landscape, Salisbury Crags is a set of cliffs beside Arthur's Seat which are part of Holyrood Park in the city centre. The work shows strong affinities with Cubism, in the way the buildings are reduced to simple cubic blocks.
William Crozier born in Edinburgh was a Scottish landscape painter. He lived in Paris in 1923 where he was introduced to cubism and travelled to Italy, where he got captivated by the bright sunlight and deep shadows he later tried to capture in his own work. After suffering ill health all his life due to haemophilia, Crozier died, aged just thirty-seven, following a fall in his studio.
