Highland cows ‘Heilan coo’ are a Scottish cattle breed, with long horns and long, wavy, woolly coats that are coloured red or ginger Highlands are raised primarily for their meat. They originated in the Highlands and Outer Hebrides islands of Scotland and were first mentioned in the 6th century AD. Only one type now exists and is registered. They have since been exported worldwide.
This fair trade decoration is produced by Saint Nicolas. For over 25 years Saint Nicolas have worked with a Christian charity in Thailand to help disadvantaged women find work in their community, today some 200 skilled women work at home sewing St Nicolas decorations, and many of them have been doing so for more than 10 years.
