She depicted the village of Catterline, east coast of Scotland, in all seasons and weathers, working outdoors as much as possible. Despite being covered with snow and under a grey sky, Eardley’s depiction of the village is enlivened by dashes of colour. This village became both home and primary subject for Joan Eardley during the last decade of her life.
Joan Eardley an English artist but spent most of her adult life as an artist in Glasgow and then Catterline, a small fishing village south of Aberdeen. Her preference was for everyday subjects such as children or the sea and coast line.
