28 x 35.6 cm art print reproduction of An Allegory (Fàbula) by El Greco (Domenikos Theotokopoulos), from the National Galleries of Scotland Collection.
The intense light and deep shadow enhance the air of mystery around the boy lighting a candle, watched closely by a monkey and grinning man. The monkey may refer to the artist's skill in aping nature, especially in flickering light effects.
Doménikos Theotokópoulos most widely known as El Greco ("The Greek") was a painter, sculptor and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. He is best known for tortuously elongated figures and often fantastic or phantasmagorical pigmentation, marrying Byzantine traditions with those of Western painting.
