35 x 28 cm art print reproduction featuring Eric Robertson, 1887 - 1941. Artist. With Mary Newbery, 1890 - 1985 by Cecile Walton, part of the National Galleries of Scotland collection.

Mary Newbery was the daughter of Francis and Jessie Newbery, who both attended Glasgow School of Art. She studied painting and design in Glasgow and Paris and, like her mother, specialised in embroidery and paintings of flowers in watercolour.

Newbery was a close friend of Cecile Walton – meeting her husband, the painter Alick Riddell Sturrock, through Walton’s own husband, Eric Robertson. Posing as Newbery's ‘companion’, Robertson is depicted here in a manner which emphasises his androgynous beauty. The painting remained in Cecile Walton’s family, from whom it was acquired.

Cecile Walton (29 March 1891 – 23 April 1956), was a Scottish painter, illustrator and sculptor. She and her husband Eric were two of the moving spirits of the Edinburgh chapter of the Symbolist movement in the early 20th century.
