Dame Elizabeth Violet Blackadder, Mrs Houston, DBE, RA, RSA (24 September 1931 – 23 August 2021) was a Scottish painter and printmaker. She was the first woman to be elected to both the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Academy.
Painter and printmaker Elizabeth Blackadder was born in Falkirk 1931. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art under William Gillies and lectured at the college from 1962 until her retirement in 1986. Blackadder is well known for her delicate paintings of flowers and still life subjects, however, she also painted landscapes and portraits. In 2001 she was appointed Her Majesty's Painter and Limner in Scotland. Blackadder lived and worked in Edinburgh.
