Limited edition giclee print produced exclusively for the National Galleries of Scotland. Mirror of the South by Scottish artist Victoria Crowe sets a portrait scene with jewel-like colours of red and blue. This limited edition giclee is printed on Somerset Enhanced 100% Cotton rag paper which only 150 prints, signed and numbered by the artist, are available.
Victoria lives and works in the Scottish Borders and Venice. Both are brought together in Mirror of the South, with the picture split between the cold, blue snow-covered garden of the north to the left and the warm red and gold of the south to the right. Her self-portrait looks out from the right-hand side, too, but a tall Annunciation lily, repeated, stands in front of both parts as her experience links them.
Over the last 35 years Victoria Crowe, one of Scotland’s leading painters, has established herself as a painter whose work is instantly recognisable. While the full range of her painting covers landscape, still lifes, portraits, self-portraits and interiors, much of her work defies such precise categorisation. She has been described as ‘one of the most vital and original figurative painters currently at work in Scotland’
