This work is shown at the exhibition Turner in January, the annual display of watercolours by Joseph Mallord William Turner from the Vaughan Bequest, bequeathed to the Galleries by the distinguished collector Henry Vaughan. These paintings have been exhibited every January for over 100 years at the National Galleries of Scotland.
Turner was an English artist that remarkably transformed the art of landscape in Britain. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools becoming the youngest ever full member in 1802. His works represent the power of nature through an experimental use of watercolour and oils.
