Pierre Bonnard landscapes boxed notecard box (20 cards)

Beautiful notecard set of 20 assorted art greeting cards featuring colourful block prints by Pierre Bonnard part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco Collection. Five 5 x 7 inch (12.7 x 17.8cm) cards of each design printed on recycled paper complete with envelope presented in a decorative box.

This selection of works by Pierre Bonnard (French, 1867–1947) features a sampling of the sun-dappled landscapes and intimate groupings of family and friends for which he is well known. A student of Paul Gauguin at the Académie Julian in Paris as a young man, Bonnard would mine the themes and styles of Impressionism and abstract modernism throughout his career. At the turn of the twentieth century he was affiliated with a group of Gauguin-followers, Les Nabis, and although some have associated Bonnard with the French intimists, the artist himself resisted being linked with any school of painting. He is remembered as an esteemed painter, illustrator, lithographer, photographer, sculptor, and etcher.

Bonnard worked in various genres and media, often representing the comforts of the middle class in oil on canvas, always with an eye toward evoking happiness. His work changed little in the last forty years of his life. Two world wars passed as if unnoticed while he painted his gardens, calm seas, and pregnant skies, intent on showering us with colour and showing us a world that is a perfectly fine place to live.
