This postcard is a reproduction of the original Study for Branded is typical of Saville’s early works in which she presented naked female figures in a direct and uncompromising way. Taking up the subject of the female nude, frequently painted by male artists throughout the history of art, Saville took a feminist perspective and confronted notions about idealised beauty.
Jenny Saville RA (born 7 May 1970) is a contemporary British painter associated with the Young British Artists. She is known for her large-scale painted depictions of nude women. Saville’s monumental self-portrait, Propped, previously exhibited at the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art Summer 2018, sold for £9.5 million, which broke the auction record for a living female artist.
